This study aims to determine the effect of career development and job satisfaction on retention either directly or indirectly the Department of Population and Civil Registration of Kerinci Regency. This study uses quantitative methods with exogenous variables namely career development variables (X1), job satisfaction intervening variables (X2) and endogenous variables namely retention (Y). The population of this study is all 32 State Civil Apparatuses at the Kerinci Regency Population and Civil Registration Service. The data analysis technique used is path analysis and is divided into 2 paths, namely sub structure 1 and sub structure 2. The data is collected through a questionnaire. . The research findings show that: 1) there is a significant direct effect of career development on job satisfaction, where the contribution value obtained is 0.751 or 75.1% with a significance of 0.000. 2) There is a significant direct influence of career development on retention, where the contribution value obtained is 0.234 or 23.4% with a significance of 0.000. 3) there is a significant direct effect of job satisfaction on retention, where the contribution value obtained is 0.265 or 26.5% with a significance of 0.000. 4) there is an indirect effect of career development on retention through job satisfaction significantly, where the contribution value obtained is 0.216 or 21.6%.
